If everyone 'worried' about climate change would put their worry into action, the rate of climate change would slow.

You are not alone in feeling some helplessness in the face of climate change. You may also be frustrated about your inability to impact climate change or other big issues like politics, crime, wars, and poverty. You vote. You protest. You write letters. Yet, nothing changes, nothing seems to be enough. You are not alone.

Climate change is one of the rare things that you have an absolute and immediate impact on? Every kilogram of carbon you emit causes more climate change, and every kilogram you reduce slows climate change. Individually, it is not much, but collectively it is everything! “Pledge One for Climate” is that collective effort.

Why 'Pledge One'?

Emitting ZERO carbon dioxide would be great, but it is not possible.

'One' in 'Pledge One' refers to 1000 kg of carbon dioxide emissions per year. The US average is about 10,000 kg (10 tons) per year which is three times the global average and 40 more than many the per capita emissions in Kenya. (World in Data)

How much is 1000 kg per year?

About 3 kg per day.

However, rather than prescribing a 3 kg per day reduction for everyone, we are asking for a 10% reduction in your annual emissions. This is more equitable. Those with no money don't consume much and don't emit much.

US consumers represent 70% of US GDP. The top 10% of earners are responsible for 50% of all US consumption, Marketplace. The wealthy have larger homes and drive our vehicles more. We fly on planes, we buy without thinking. We have boats, hot tubs, and big home(s). But lets not blame the wealthy, we are all in this together.

Will a 10% reduction be a hardship? As you will learn, simple changes can be made to get to this 10% reduction. If you are buying 10 pairs of shoes a year, buy just 9. If your car is getting 25 mpg, driving more cautiously can easily reduce your vehicle emissions by 10%.

This website provides tools to help estimate your total emissions and what to do to reduce your emissions by 10%. Our goal is a 10% reduction, but we accept any kg/day reduction that you can commit to. Remember, it all matters!
